The eGov unit of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics @ NUI Galway succeeded in becoming Ireland’s first node of the London based Open Data Institute (ODI) headed by Sir Tim Berners Lee the inventor of the World Wide Web joining NICVA in Northern Ireland as the ODI representatives on the island of Ireland.
The eGov unit led by Adegboyega Ojo currently participates in 5 Horizon 2020 projects and has also succeeded in winning the franchise for a major international conference to be held in Galway in 2018. It advises the Irish Government on open data strategy and Professor Dietrich Rebholz Schumann the director of Insight sits on the Irish Open Data Governance Board.
The eGov unit can now boast an ODI franchise and two registered ODI trainers, Niall Ó Brolcháin and Lukasz Porwol who recently qualified in London.
The focus of the ODI is to promote all aspects of Open Data. In particular it provides training, dissemination, membership, networking, research, certification and consultancy. Regular meetings take place in London with nodes from as far away as Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Brazil in attendance.
